Entry 0083
I'm getting annoyed by the frequency of updates on my CachyOS desktop/gaming rig, again. Strong itch to install Bazzite, again. I'm going to stick this out. It's almost guaranteed that some time after I install Bazzite, I'll get annoyed with the containerization and partial read-only filesystem. The sensible thing to do would be to not follow the urge to install Bazzite.
One way I can make this easier is by turning off Cachy-Update. I won't see the update notification in the system tray, so it won't invoke that nagging feeling in me. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be that big of a deal, security- and functionality-wise, if I only updated the system once a week. Cachy-Update just runs the arch-update command and displays info in the system tray. I can remove it from autostart programs so it doesn't run on boot. Then I can edit the arch-update systemd timer to only run weekly instead of hourly. It would display a notification only once a week. I can also edit the ExecStart command in the service file to arch-update --check --tray, so that the system tray icon only shows when it is run once a week.
